Executive functions are the brain's "air traffic control" — the skills that help students plan ahead, manage their time, start tasks without shutting down, and stay regulated when things get hard. When those skills are underdeveloped, even bright students fall behind. EF coaching teaches students how to manage their learning — not just what to study.

Debra Borenstein has spent her career working with students from early childhood through college. She holds five advanced credentials spanning Elementary Education, Early Childhood, Reading, Educational Leadership, and Executive Function — so she understands how students learn at every stage, and what gets in the way.

Her approach isn't about pushing harder. It's about finding strategies that actually fit the student in front of her, and building from there.

EF coaching is structured one-on-one support that helps students build planning, organization, time management, and self-regulation skills. It's not about any one class — it's about how a student manages their work, their time, and themselves.
A tutor helps with math or reading. EF coaching helps a student figure out how to sit down and do the homework in the first place — and then actually turn it in. Those habits carry across every subject and into life outside school.
No. If your child is consistently struggling with organization, follow-through, or time management, that's enough reason to reach out. Debra has extensive experience with students who have ADHD or other learning differences, but a label is never required.
